Welcome Starlite Ambassador

It has been over eight years since I returned to my beloved Texas hill country to assume the reins of the venerable Starlite Recovery Center. Our company had just acquired this historic treatment center from the legendary physician, Dr. Gene Seale. After decades of being the premiere treatment center in the Southwest, recent years had been difficult and the facility had fallen into disrepair. On the date we assumed ownership, there were only 8 patients in house. We immediately initiated extensive physical plant renovations. The new team redesigned the clinical programs to combine the most effective proven methods and "best practices" with the latest evidence based advancements in the treatment of substance abuse. We rapidly went from 40 to our current capacity of 104 beds.

Today, we have over 100 patients receiving care in the Starlite system. We are justifiably proud of our accomplishment over the past eight years, however, we gratefully acknowledge that the key to our success is each of you….our loyal and supportive Starlite Alumni. Without your recovery experience being shared in your community, none of this would have been possible. Alumni recommendations are our #1 source of daily admissions. You are truly Starlite Ambassadors. Our gratitude knows no bounds!!!

In celebration of you being our Ambassadors, come join our family at the Starlite Reunion on June 6th-7th. We look forward to seeing and reconnecting with each and every one of you.

Sincerely,
John Lacy
Exe. Dir.

Alumni Reunion

"One generation plants the trees; another gets the shade"
Chinese Proverb

In a real sense, Starlite Alumni are the generation that has planted many trees for those who follow them. All of you who courageously left here with hope and return with heads held high are part of a greater community. Not only is the Starlite Reunion an opportunity to enjoy a weekend full of food, fun, and fellowship, it is a chance to revisit one of the most influential times in your life.

Reunion is right around the corner and we are all excited to see our family continue to grow. Come make memories with us at our annual volleyball tournament. You do not want to miss our featured speaker, Shannon C., who will be traveling from Sebastobal, California and has 20 years of powerful recovery. Come fill your cup with us and make some new friendships. If two can make a meeting, imagine what 400 alumni can achieve.

Couples in Recovery

Addiction destroys the hopes and dreams that individuals had when they entered into the relationship. Furthermore, the addiction has deeply wounded both individuals. The tendency is for those involved in a dysfunctional relationship to blame one another. If you would stop using, everything would be fine and if you would stop being so controlling… We essentially develop a dance of destruction. Many expect that the dance will stop once the individual stops abusing substances. What is more often the case is that the dance continues.

Couples have learned an interactional cycle that is as difficult to break as the addiction cycle. What is required for change is that each individual must be willing to look at his/her part and put forth 100%. Additionally, both have to accept that relationship.

Recovery is a long painful process. Sustained participation in activities such as marital/couple therapy, 12-step recovery meetings, and relationship workshops is required. We invite you to participate in the Couples in recovery workshop as part of your long journey of healing.
